Scania Zwolse Half Marathon

On Saturday evening 12 June 2021 it’s time again! Then the nicest running festival in the Netherlands is run again. Together with up to 10,000 athletes, you walk through the historic city centre of Zwolle in the evening sun. From schoolboy to world champion, from recreational to seasoned runner, everyone is present in Zwolle!

Tens of thousands of enthusiastic supporters cheer you to the finish line. Fanfares, bands and DJs play along the entire course. On the Grote Markt the welcome is magnificent. When you finish, you can enjoy yourself with your friends and family in one of the cozy squares in the city centre of Zwol. What more do you want: walk, be applauded and reminisce? Zwolle gives it all to you! The Scania Zwolse Half Marathon has a run of 2.6 kilometers to the center, after which you will get acquainted with the cozy city center of Zwolle in three rounds of 6.2 kilometers.

Start and finish
The Scania Zwolse Half Marathon starts at 8.15 pm on the Koggelaan and goes via the Van Karnebeekstraat (bus) tunnel to a three-lap course in the city. At 10.15 pm the passage on the Grote Markt closes for the last round. So you have to start your last lap of more than 6 kilometers before then. The finish is on the Grote Markt and closes at 23:00. This is due to the safety that can no longer be guaranteed after this time due to the influx of entertainment traffic. The course is KNAU/IAAF certified.

Race ladies start earlier Because of
the success of this set-up during previous editions, the race women of the Scania Zwolse Half Marathon will also start earlier this year. They leave around 8:07 p.m. To be precise 7 minutes and 58 seconds earlier than the men and all other participants. This is the difference between the men’s course record (1:00:24 by William Wanjiku in 2019) and the women’s course record (1:08:22 from Flomena Chepchirchir in 2011). The battle between the women is therefore much better for the public to follow and it also gives the competition an extra charge. Which woman is able to stay ahead of the fastest man?

Classification of starting courses Half Marathon
Box 1 = Race runners
Box 2 = Business Runners
Box 3 = Recreation, divided into four boxes:

Box c = duration from 01:55 to 02:05 hours
Box d = duration longer than 02:05 hours

Reminder
Each participant receives a medal as a reminder after the finish. As in previous years, it is also possible to indicate at the time of registration whether you want the commemorative medal engraved. Engraving is done after the finish with a high-quality laser and a patented control program. The engraving – name and time – makes the commemorative medal unique and personal. A medal with engraving costs 7.00 euros at pre-registration and 8.50 euros afterwards.

Course record
The course record is in the men’s name of William Wanjiku. He ran a time of 1:00:24 in 2019. In the women’s competition, the record – since 2011 – is 1:08:22 and in the name of Flomena Chepchirchir. Due to these great times, zwolle’s race route has established itself in the fastest ten races in the Netherlands. However, it can always be faster. That’s why there’s a bonus on improving the course record.
